Potholes come in all shapes and sizes. Depending on how big the pothole is, it can cause severe damage to your ride. This includes:

· Bent wheel rims 

· Internal tire damage 

· Shock and strut issues 

· Alignment issues

Depending on the impact and how it happens, some damage will be apparent immediately. On the flip side, some issues can arise over time. For example, tire damage is typically immediate. You’ll likely notice a crack or hole in the tire, and in most cases, you’ll know to have the tire replaced. 

Alternatively, if your wheel bends slightly, you might not notice it immediately. If the issue goes unaddressed, it can worsen, which means you’ll likely be on the hook for more involved repairs.

While you can’t stop a pothole from forming, you can take measures to minimize pothole damage.

The easiest thing you can do is drive on tires that are properly inflated. Regularly check your tires’ PSI (pounds per square inch) and fill them with air when needed. Properly inflated tires are more equipped to handle harsh impacts from potholes. Drive safely. Pay attention to the road and the speed limit. 

If you can, slow down before making contact with a pothole, as you’ll lessen the impact. Additionally, do not drive distracted. Keep your eyes on the road and keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. 

If a pothole is unavoidable, take your foot off the gas pedal and let the car ride. Don’t press the brake pedal, as you stand a greater chance of causing damage to them, especially if the car is moving at a high speed. Plus, you can control your vehicle better during impact.
